Humphrey School Alumni Board

The Humphrey School Alumni Board plays a key role in promoting and achieving the mission of the Humphrey School by providing an effective vehicle for alumni involvement. The Alumni Board has a unique position in facilitating the sharing of practitioner-based experience and promoting the School among key partners.

Applications for the 2016-2017 Humphrey Alumni Society Board will not be accepted until early 2016.

To apply for the Humphrey School Alumni Society Board:

Please email an updated resume and a cover letter to hhhalum@umn.edu. Please include in the subject of your email "Humphrey Alumni Society Board Application." Per the Humphrey School Alumni Society's bylaws, only graduates of the School are eligible for nomination.

In your cover letter, please explain why you want to serve on the Humphrey School Alumni Society Board. Please identify what you will bring to the board, as well as what experiences you have that will further the goals and objectives of the Board as set out in our purpose, mission and vision statements (below). Be sure to include:

  • Your community and volunteer activities (personal and professional)
  • Any previous ways that you have been involved with the University of Minnesota and/or the Humphrey School of Public Affairs in the past.

Options include, but are not limited to: past alumni board service, Humphrey mentorship program, financial contributor, class or event speaker, career resource for students, etc.

Alumni Board Member Responsibilities

The Humphrey School Alumni Board organizes events and sponsors activities that allow alumni to benefit personally, intellectually, and professionally through involvement with current students and programs at the School and the greater University. Service on the alumni board of directors is a valuable way in which graduates "give back" to the School.

  • Join the University of Minnesota Alumni Association
  • Serve on a board committee and attend all regularly scheduled alumni board meetings (either in person or via video/conference phone)
  • Make an annual financial contribution to the Humphrey School by June 30 of each year. Consider a recurring monthly gift!

Meeting Schedule

Meetings are open to all alumni and friends of the Humphrey School. If you plan to attend, please email hhhalum@umn.edu in advance so we may plan for space. Meetings are held in Wilkins Room (215) at the Humphrey School, unless otherwise noted.

Mission of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs

The Humphrey School of Public Affairs inspires, educates, and supports innovative leaders to advance the common good in a diverse world.

Mission of the Humphrey School Alumni Society Board

The Society exists to be in service to School alumni and to connect them to each other to the School leadership, faculty, and students.

The Society enriches the alumni experience by connecting alumni to School programs, knowledge and strengthening their ties to each other, to current students, and to the administration and faculty of the School. It provides alumni with opportunities to serve the School and Humphrey students through programming, sharing professional expertise, and providing financial support. The Society links students with alumni and friends of the School, encouraging lifelong relationships with the college and the University.

Vision of the Humphrey School Alumni Society Board

The Humphrey School Alumni Board will help the Humphrey School foster and sustain strong relationships with its alumni and students in order to broaden career and networking opportunities, support students in completing their degrees, and promote excellence in public affairs.

Purpose of the Humphrey School Alumni Society Board

The Humphrey School Alumni Board plays a key role in promoting and achieving the mission of the Humphrey School by providing an effective vehicle for alumni involvement. The Alumni Board has a unique position in facilitating the sharing of practitioner-based experience and promoting the School among key partners.

Commitment to Diversity

The Humphrey School Alumni Board endorses the School's mission statement and strategic goals and further endorses its commitment to diversity. The alumni board commits to maintaining a diverse membership and actively supporting diversity via the Humphrey Alumni Scholarship program, the Humphrey School Mentor Program, and other initiatives that connect alumni with students.
