A RETIREMENT PARTY AND CELEBRATION FOR
PROFESSOR KATHY FENNELLY:

Students, staff, faculty members, and alumni are invited to join us on Thursday, April 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bistro in the lower level of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs to celebrate Kathy's many years of service to the Humphrey School of Public Affairs, the University of Minnesota, and communities across the state. (RSVP Here)

HUMPHREY STUDENT PROFILE:
When the Clean Air Dialogue Working Group needed someone to update a 14-year-old report on the economic impact of the Twin Cities failing to meet EPA rules on ozone levels, they turned to Courtney Blankenheim to get the job done. It turned out to be a good fit for both the working group and the second-year MS–STEP student from Madison, Wisconsin. Courtney credits the MS–STEP program for helping her strengthen her policy analysis skills, as well as the skills needed to communicate results effectively. "It's been a great compliment to my undergraduate experience," she says. "I've developed more applicable skills and experiences going into the workforce." (Read More About Courtney's Project)

PROFESSOR JIM LYDAY, 1930–2012:
Jim Lyday
, 82, passed away on December 11, 2012, in Silver Spring, Maryland. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota in 1970, Lyday served as staff economist at several federal agencies, including the Office of Economic Opportunity, President Johnson’s anti-poverty agency, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Professor John Brandl recruited Lyday to serve in a non-tenured, limited-term position called “Bureaucrat in Residence,” according to Humphrey colleague Professor Emeritus James Jernberg. Lyday was the first and only holder of the position, serving from the fall of 1970 through the spring of 1973. Lyday taught social and economic policy and helped students secure paid internships in Washington, D.C. (Read the Full Obituary)
