Dean's Corner

Dean Schwartz

"President Barack Obama brings his campaign to curb gun violence to Minnesota today, and the North Star state offers valuable lessons for a nation in the midst of a critical public debate. If the president can make progress in Minnesota, there is reason to hope he can promote consensus on effective gun-violence prevention measures throughout the nation." The Local Government Innovation Awards recognizes the creative ways that counties, cities, and schools are making Minnesota better by doing things differently. Congrats to Mounds View Public Schools on receiving the $25,000 grant for its Early College at Irondale High School program. In addition, both of this year's runners up received such overwhelming support that the Bush Foundation decided to grant them each $10,000. Congrats to all 18 award winners, and a special congratulations to the three finalists: Dakota County, the City of Saint Paul, and Mounds View Public Schools. (more)
